6 Key Takeaways for More Purpose
“You’ll figure it out”, they say.
But are they right?
Or is that a recipe for a mid-life crisis?
Purpose takes work.
Not the ‘roll your sleeves up and get dirty” kinda work you’re thinking of.
More like work on yourself, or introspection as I like to call it.
We all know you’re willing to work hard. You do it every day, but you still have a longing for something more.
Something within you tells you you can do more to make a difference and you’re committed to making sure that voice isn’t wrong.
You’re never going to make enough money.
The time you are spending in the office is time you’ll never get back.
You are just running in circles.
Stress…. Do you feel it? The ever-so-often feeling of uncertainty, complex sensations, and high levels of overwhelm in a fast-moving world. Can you keep up?
You are trying to. But what if I told you, keeping up isn’t the answer?
Life is stressful especially if you spend your time worrying about insignificant mishaps.
“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.”― Lao Tzu
Think about your dream life for a second…
There’s a lot of you reading this who would love to be an entrepreneur.
In fact, maybe you have given it a shot and it didn’t go so well.
Or, maybe you currently have a job but when you envision yourself 10 years down the road you’re doing things your own way.
Call it what you want:
Whatever. The one thing they have in common is they create their own path. Whether it be by yourself or with a team, you have a vision and a need, a thirst to create.
As you well know, creation occurs…
Most of the time, your stress and anxiety are a result of misalignment.
Misalignment is a result of failing to understand yourself; Your thoughts and actions aren’t aligned with your passion and purpose.
Your spinning your wheels.
And you think that more action will help.
Yet, you continue to spin your wheels.
The truth is, understanding more about yourself will create alignment with your thoughts and actions.
When this happens, you become unstoppable.
The thing about journaling is, it’s transformative. But most people do it incorrectly.
You might think it’s unnecessary, or even daunting.
Sitting down with a blank sheet…
It seems that the older you get, the more valuable the lessons your parents taught you become.
I could rattle off 100 lessons learned (most of them the hard way) from my parents, and I’m sure you could too.
But this article is about the most meaningful lesson I learned.
It might change over time, as things do, but to date, this is what has impacted me the most.
Life is full of “seasons”.
I’m not talking about fall, winter, spring, and summer.
But rather, the stage of life you are in.
The thing of it is, with each season…
One of the biggest mistakes you make is letting distractions get the best of you.
Think about the last time you took a deep breath and said, “Ahhhh, this is the life!”
I’d be willing to argue that the answer is no.
Instead, you were likely:
Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated. — Confucius
Why are you listening to society? You know it’s not doing you any good. Society pushes status to find happiness:
“What are you going to do for a living”
“How much money does he make?”
“If you quit what will you do?”
“What’s your degree?”
“I own a business”
“I’m the manager”
meh. . .
Honestly, the sooner you bag this idea as your path to purpose, the better. It does anything BUT leads to a path of purpose and fulfillment.
You waste too much time &…
Before jumping in, let’s discuss why I set this goal for myself in the first place.
Jeff Bradford lays it out perfectly in his Forbes article, “Why writing ability is the most important skill in business (and how to acquire it).”
Here’s the thing, I’ve experienced a lot of personal turmoil in my journey, maybe you can relate. I needed a sense of clarity and understanding in a way that will benefit my personal brand as well as the brand I am building.
I was spinning my wheels.
I figured this: Everything is writing.
You’re not here (on earth) to let time pass you
Nor are you here to be an average version of yourself.
You’re here to make the most of your time and capitalize on your gifts & skillsets.
It takes work. But after all, progress does equal happiness.
Think about it this way, the fact alone that you’re reading this is a blessing; you’re alive.
But you’re not setting daily goals?
If progress is fundamental of happiness then certainly setting goals is a key element to living life to the fullest.
Let’s reframe your thought process and make progress inevitable.
“Folks Are Usually About As Happy As They Make Their Minds Up To Be.” — Abraham Lincoln
Going through the motions never leads to a life full of passion and happiness.
The sooner you figure it out the sooner you quit going through the motions.
What brings happiness to your life?
I know what you’re thinking . . .
Pretty standard, though. I think you can do better than that.
Not only that, I think doing better will add a little more fire to your soul.
Let’s light you up!
